How Walk in Baths, Bath Lifts and Walk in Showers Can Make Life Easier

Over the last decade we’ve seen a great deal of improvements in bath and shower options for the elderly and disabled, with many innovative accessories and solutions we just wouldn’t have had access to just a few years ago. The main options are walk in baths, bath lifts and walk in showers, and we’re going to go over the benefits of each so you can decide which option would make your life easier.

Walk in baths
If you enjoy a good bath, but have mobility issues that stop you from getting safely in and out of the tub by yourself, a walk in bath could be the ideal solution. The system is fairly simple to install and consists of a hinged, pressure sealed door at the side of a standard-sized bath, allowing you to take a comfortable, relaxing bath safely and independently. The only drawback to a walk in bath is that you will have to wait until most of the water has drained until you can open the door to get out, but many agree that this is a small price to pay for being able to take a bath safely and independently. You may also find you’d be able to enjoy your walk in bath more with the addition of a bath seat, or a bath lift (as mentioned below).

Bath lifts
If you struggle getting in and out of the bath, in particular sitting down, then you may want to consider a bath lift. This handy device will gently lower you in and out of the tub, so that you will never have to struggle without assistance again. Bath lifts are lightweight, portable and simple to install, without having to go to the lengths of fitting a new bath rub. As an added safety feature, a bath lift will only lower if there is enough power stored to help you back up again.

Walk in showers
A walk in shower is a stylish way to make showering an easy, comfortable and safe experience. Often they will come with slip resistant vinyl or tiles that covers the floor and walls, with a variety of full or half-height shower doors to choose from. You may also benefit from accessories such as a shower seat, or grab rails.
