Is A Promotion Right For You?

If you’ve been offered a promotion at work then you may think that it promises total job security and from here it’s plain sailing up the career ladder. Sometimes that is the case but unfortunately, employers will need to assess what kind of person you are to make sure that you’re capable of having people work under you or for you. Before you actually accept the role and your contract changes, it’s likely that you will have to undergo a series of tests to determine this.

One of the tests that may be passed in your direction is an unconscious bias test. These are sometimes given to new employees of the company but can be administered later on if you’re being considered for a promotion into a position of power. An unconscious bias test is a series of questions with no right or wrong answer. The questions themselves are carefully structured into a clever way so and the results will determine what kind of person you are and how well you work with other people.

Employers use this method as a way of finding out how well you fit into a certain role, after all they have to cover their own backs as your mistakes could fall onto them and put the company in jeopardy.

You’ve already been considered for the role so that’s a great going and is compliment straight away, now you just have to remember to answer the questions carefully and truthfully. If you answer the questions in a way that completely opposes how you are in the work place then you will be found out. The beauty of the unconscious bias test is that it is accurate and revealing about a person, without the candidate realising how much information they are giving away about themselves.

What is bias?

Bias is a judgement that is made against someone before you know anything about them. This could be judging someone because of their gender, race, sexuality or the colour of their hair. The problem with most offenders is that they don’t even realise what kind of bias they’re giving and that’s when the problems will start if this person is in a senior position.
