Portable Buildings Phenomenon Explained

What is the definition of portable?DSC01326-1024x670

Adjective:

  • Meaning capable of being transported e.g. A travel mug
  • Easily carried or conveyed by hand e.g. A laptop

Over time more and more things which were once stationary are now portable. Computers are a great example, rewind 70 years and modern digital computers needed a whole room to function. Now you can carry them around with you in your handbag or briefcase.

This phenomenon has expanded its reach. Buildings which were once stationary are now portable. Below are some great examples:

Portable Offices

Portable cabins are no longer just those things you find on building sites full of builders drinking tea while it rains. Instead, they have evolved into multifunctional spaces which can be adapted for a wealth reasons. Office spaces, classrooms and fitness studios are just some of the new use for these portable buildings.

Portable Changing Rooms

Portable changing rooms are a new edition to the portable building club. In the last 5 years, we have seen a huge increase in the number of large-scale outdoor events in the UK. Take for example festivals; they have grown exponentially in the last decade to the point where the market is saturated. Farmers markets, vintage fayres, you name it there are more now than ever before. But more people means more facilities needed. To address such a problem, portable changing rooms were invented. Perfect for VIP areas, participant changing or simply as facilities for weekend stall holders they make these large scale events much more appealing.

Portable Sheds

Moving house is always a chore. What do you take? What do you leave behind? Fortunately, the garden shed is no longer one of those items you have to choose to leave behind. Portable sheds are the latest in a long line of portable buildings designed to give you more storage space without having to get planning permission or build an extension.

As you can see from this small list alone, portable is the new stationary and as time goes on we will no doubt see more of these kinds of buildings.
