4 Bathroom Disasters to Avoid

Although the bathroom is often the smallest room in the house, the impact that it can have as both a design feature and for your well being should not be underestimated.  You will also do well to remember that a well designed bathroom can boost the saleability of your property.

Our bathrooms should offer us both sanctuary to hide from the stresses of the modern world as well practical solutions for us to launch into it looking beautifully prepared.  So, when planning a new bathroom make sure you get it right by avoiding these common mistakes.

Coloured Suite

Choose any colour that you like for your bathroom suite so long as it is white!  The reason that the avocado, beige and even pastel coloured suites are a no go is simply down to aesthetics.  A white bathroom suite is timeless, it looks clean and fresh and is also a great selling point for a house.  So stick with white!

Carpeted Floor

Carpets in bathroom are the perfect breeding ground for mould and within weeks can turn into a damp, smelly mess.  They simply hold fluids, and there are plenty of types of those in a bathroom, ewww!  Opt for wipe clean surfaces such as stone or ceramic tiles.  If you like the warm, cosy feeling of a carpet under your toes choose a fluffy bath mat, rug or there’s always under floor heating for complete luxury.

No Storage Space

Who wants to see every choice of a hygiene product that you opt for on display?  Remember that almost everyone that visits your home will visit your bathroom.  Clever storage is all about making sure the right items are on display and the more personal ones are hidden away.  Thankfully there are plenty of storage solutions for bathrooms available including floating wall shelves, cabinets or bathroom mirrors with shaver sockets, over-door shelving to name but a few.  No excuse not to get organised!

Decadent Decor

The bathroom is not the place to make your bold design or colour statements.  It is important to opt for a design choice that is going to stand the test of time.  Avoid heavily patterned or brightly coloured tiles and wall coverings that will look great for five years or so but will then have you deterring your guests from using the facilities.  Save your drama and colour statements for your accessories; towels, artwork, a collection of storage boxes and jars.  All of these can be re-arrange, interchanged or even updated.  Perfect versatility!
