5 types of driver

Everywhere you go you hear the word ‘driver’. There was a time when driver simply meant somebody who was driving something. Now days it can mean a number of things.

Take a look through my list of different types of drivers.

Automobile Driver
Noun. “One that drives, as the operator of a motor vehicle.”
Whether you drive the vehicle yourself, are in a taxi or employ someone to drive for you the person behind the wheel is considered the automobile driver.

Noun. “The insulated-gate bipolar transistor or IGBT is a three-terminal power semiconductor device primarily used as an electronic switch and in newer devices is noted for combining high efficiency and fast switching.”
Often used in high powered household appliances, IGBT drivers enable you to switch between different sources of electrical power faster and more efficiently.

Driver (Golf)
Noun. “A golf club with a wooden head whose face has almost no slope, for hitting long low drives from the tee.”
Golfing is a hugely popular past time. Anyone who plays and owns or rents a full set of clubs will get a driver as part of the set.

Disk Driver
Noun. “Insert the Floppy Disk into the Disk Driver”
A disk driver is a small device that reads Floppy Disks, CD’s and DVDs. The laser reads the information and sends it back to the computer where it is translated into visual or text form.

Driver
Noun. “Pass me that screwdriver over there”
A tool, such as a screwdriver or hammer is often referred to as a ‘driver’. You use the tool to drive force into another object when doing DIY. Screws and nails are the perfect example of objects that need to be driven into place using something else.

From IGBT Drivers to golf clubs, hopefully this article has given you a run down on the different types of driver you may come across.
